1968 was a defining year for two legends – Tommie Smith’s remarkable gold medal victory and historic silent protest against social injustice at the ’68 Summer Games in Mexico, as well as PUMA’s iconic Suede silhouette. To honor this exceptionally brave gesture, as well as celebrate a new milestone, PUMA has created the “POWER THRU PEACE” capsule collection. All profits from the sales of this collection will be donated to charities pursuing universal equality as part of PUMA’s #REFORM initiative.
The packs within the collection are represented by the five Olympic regions, with iterations and design elements unique to its own – Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas.
The PUMA Suede x PWR Thru Peace x Europe is an Off-White silhouette with the Power Thru Peace logo embroidered atop a clean White midsole. Dropping in vibrant colorways, the Suede x PWR Thru Peace x Asia in Flame Scarlet is decked with mini lookalike Olympic badges on the Formstrip and the Suede x PWR Thru Peace x Africa in Spectra Yellow tastefully features colors of the Olympic rings on the trim and quarter. While the Suede x PWR Thru Peace x Australia in Quarry – PUMA Black is embroidered with colorful Formstrip representing the Olympic rings, the Suede x PWR Thru Peace x Americas is built with an iced midsole and Triple Black base with painted heel pieces that represent the 5 Olympic regions.
The collection also features a limited-edition pack dubbed “307” that represents Tommie Smith’s number when he ran and clinched gold at the 200-m event in Mexico. A guaranteed collectible piece, the Suede x PWR THRU PCE ‘307’ sneaker ties together all 5 styles in iconic PUMA Black, the same colorway that Tommie wore at the podium.
