PUMA has been diving into their archives for many recent releases, pulling out plenty of classics and hidden gems along the way. Now, with all the inspiration in front of them, they’ve created a whole new 80s’-styled silhouette, the Rider.

PUMA’s recent string of archive silhouettes returning to their modern arsenal has made them a formidable force in the sneaker world. In fact, recent reports show them outperforming both adidas and Nike in quarterly growth so far this year. While this is not an exact prediction of the future, its a good representation of how PUMAs recent strategies are paying off.

This week, the brand introduced a new silhouette to continue their run of excellent releases. Titled the PUMA Rider, its not exactly a full retro release. Instead, the Rider is an entirely new look that is heavily inspired by the Fast Rider from 1980, as well as several other vintage PUMA sneakers from that era. Our first look at the new sneakers, courtesy of Highsnobiety, shows off a colorful look for the Rider. The new look sports a split green and blue ripstop nylon upper supported by navy blue and black toe caps and heel counters, as well as white leather FormStrips. The midsole, made from padded EVA, comes in white with a red brick on the outer heel, presumably for added support under the heel. Finally, red PUMA branding completed the Rider.

While PUMA has already given an early look for the new retro-inspired Rider silhouette, the brand has not yet announced an official release date. However, Highsnobiety has noted in their official first look that the new look will debut sometime later this year, possibly even in 2020.
