With the Year Of The Pig in the Chinese zodiac calendar upon us, seemingly every footwear brand is throwing their hat — or putting their foot — in the ring with special CNY releases. Some inspirations are intricate while some are more obvious, but few are as clever as Vans and Purlicue’s two-shoe “The Fat Year” collab, featuring the Vans Old Skool and the Vans Era. Supersizing is the name of the game here, so each red-and-white shoe features a swath of enlarged details: the Old Skool boasts a sizeable checkered pattern on the lateral/medial sides of the upper and enormous interchangeable red-and-white jazz stripes, while the Era keeps things a touch more simple for those who aren’t looking to fully gorge themselves, condensing the giant checkerboard pattern to the tongue and throat. Both pairs also feature a massive Vans logo on the heel and come equipped with extra-wide red flat laces. Finishing touches are then provided by a black “The Fat Year” text hit on the outsole and a special pig graphic on the insole. If you’re looking to pig out — literally — with these witty Vans collabs, they’re both available now at select Vault stockists like Suppa.
